BEST NEW RESTAURANTS IN WEST VILLAGE: NOW OPENMIDICI

New Restaurants in Dallas, TX

Just opened in the West Village is MidiCi, a Neapolitan pizza company with cooking styles of the old world, and decorative flair of the new. The center staged kitchen, known as “the heart” features wood-fired ovens, heated to nearly 1,000 degrees, to cook pizza in the original way the Italians did 300 years ago. The intense heat of the oven means lunch or dinner is ready in only 90 seconds! MidiCi features a unique indoor fixture – a live black olive tree – nestled within the dining area. The kitchen uses all natural ingredients and it shows. A must have is the Margherita pizza; tomato, fresh mozzarella, olive oil, and a touch of basil. The flavor bursts in your mouth with each bite and leaves you wanting more. As a post-Neapolitan pizza treat, don’t miss an espresso made from The Athena; a handcrafted machine that lets you hear each drop of delicious espresso as it creates perfection in a cup – just the way it is served in Naples, Italy.

EASY SLIDER

Best Restaurants in Uptown Dallas

In December 2011, a food truck was born. Aptly named for the menu selections, Easy Slider offers Certified Angus beef sliders. The idea took off, and grew into such a phenomenon that the company now includes three food trucks, and a brick and mortar location in historic Deep Ellum. Easy Slider has won a number of local and national awards, including Best Food Truck in Dallas (Dallas Observer, D Magazine, Dallas Voice), and 21 Best Food Trucks in America (Thrillist).

The menu offers fresh ingredients of the highest quality, and in addition to sliders with unique toppings, Easy Slider showcases seasonal items that make the menu even more magnificent. They make their bread fresh each day, and sauces are made in-house. The favorite? The Sweet & Lowdown. Made with Certified Angus beef, and generously topped with bacon, goat cheese, and strawberry jam, this is a pleasure for your palate that you don’t want to miss! Don’t forget the tots – the Loaded Tots, that is. Go all out with the deliciously topped potato treat, finished with cheddar, bacon, green onion, and ranch. Whether you visit the Food Truck or the sit down restaurant, Easy Slider is a juicy selection certainly worth indulging.

BABOUSH

Best Restaurants in West Village: Food Tours of America Dallas

Looking for appeal both in food and ambiance? Try Baboush! The West Village restaurant offers enticing dishes that will charm your taste buds, and a setting that will take you to the East, with the sounds of Arabic music filling the air. As a starter, try the Moroccan Sweet Tomato – a spread certain to delight. Made with cinnamon, garlic, orange blossom water, sesame seeds and almonds, it’s the right way to dive in to the delicious world of Mediterranean food.

Our main dish of choice is the Fez Chicken Tagine. The flavorsome saffron braised chicken, with Moroccan green olives, potatoes, and preserved lemon, is out of this world. As a dessert indulgence, a must have is the Baklava with honey, orange blossom water and pistachio. An experience in itself, Baboush also offers hookah in multiple flavors. This is unquestionably the establishment to visit for the ultimate Mediterranean encounter.

Beat The Heat With These Sweet Treats https://foodtoursofamerica.com/beat-the-heat-with-these-sweet-treats/ Fri, 12 May 2017 17:42:30 +0000 https://foodtoursofamerica.com/dallas/?p=17748 It’s early May, and in Texas, we know what that means: summer is just a couple weeks away. Now, summer doesn’t technically start until June 20, but the way the weather goes in Dallas, you’d never know it!

Luckily, there’s a huge variety of places in Dallas where you can find a cool refreshment on a hot summer day. So arm yourself with this list and be ready to face those 100° days with tasty treats to beat the summer heat.

  1. Concretes at Shake Shack

Shake Shack opened in Uptown in August 2016 to much excitement, having been an extremely popular burger chain in the Northeast since its opening in 2004. And while the burgers and fries are good, the name tells you what they’re really about: frozen treats. The shakes are decidedly awesome, but we’re suckers for their Concretes, frozen custard with a variety of mix-ins, including a design your own option! Adding these mix-ins, which are anything but average (one’s a slice of Emporium Pie!), makes this icy delight extra sweet and extra fun.

Shake Shack, 2500 N Pearl St

  1. White Shake (Smoothie) at Brewed+Pressed

Sometimes you’re in the mood for a sweet treat, but you want to keep things on the healthier side. Enter the white shake from Brewed+Pressed. The white shake is actually a smoothie, its coldness coming from activated almond milk and frozen bananas rather than ice cream. With healthy superfood ingredients like taos and maca, this smoothie/shake is surprisingly delicious. Plus, you get to see it made on the spot by friendly baristas, so you know it’s going to be fresh. This white shake is on the pricey side, so it may not be an everyday indulgence. But if you want to enjoy something cool and refreshing, and feel healthy about it, stop in to Brewed+Pressed and grab a white shake.

Brewed+Pressed, 3700 McKinney Avenue, Suite 108

restaurants in west village dallas

  1. Rimy Rita at The Rustic

This drink is an exclusively adult way to beat the heat! The base of this cocktail is a frozen margarita, but that’s only the first round of icy coolness this drink is going to bring you. In the margarita, the wonderful bartenders of The Rustic sneak in a sangria popsicle. That’s right, frozen sangria. In a margarita. With other liqueurs mixed in. This drink will definitely cool you down, but if you have too many it may knock you down too! So head over to The Rustic with some friends, listen to nightly live music, and indulge in your summer escape responsibly.

The Rustic, 3656 Howell St

  1. Popsicles at Steel City Pops

There’s something nostalgic about popsicles but Steel City Pops aren’t your ice cream truck popsicles! With a variety of flavors split into three categories: fruity, creamy, and cookie pops these popsicles are small-batch, organic, sweetened with only cane sugar, and made with absolutely nothing fake. They also have unique seasonal flavors, so head down with a big group and make some new memories this summer!

Steel City Pops, 2012 Greenville Ave

  1. Ice Cream Sandwich at Coolhaus

No visit to Uptown is complete without a trip down to Klyde Warren Park. And if you’re in the park in the summer, a cold treat is practically a must. Thankfully, on food truck days, there’s Coolhaus. This mobile ice cream truck dishes up some super unique flavors like balsamic fig and mascarpone. They also serve fresh-baked cookies, creating the perfect opportunity for a sophisticated ice cream sandwich! Try one of their recommended flavor combos or create your own. Coolhaus’ ice cream sandwiches will cool you down  unlike anything else, so slather on the SPF (eating ice cream may be refreshing but it can’t protect you from the Texas sun) and enjoy a sandwich and some sunshine!

Klyde Warren Park, 2012 Woodall Rodgers Freeway, Suite 403 (check website for truck availability)

And what better way to celebrate than by giving our lovely planet a break? If you’re looking for ways to reduce your carbon footprint this month, check out some great ways to have fun and give back with this list of things to do in Dallas that are easily accessible by foot or trolley. Leave the car keys behind, get outside, and take a deep breath of fresh, Dallas air!

The M-Line Trolley is a great way to get around without having to hop in a car. There are plenty of stops on the route that you can hop off and check out, then hop back on to get to more.

The roundabout stop at City Place is a great place to start, super close to many restaurants and shops in the West Village. Have a famous Margarita at Tacos And Tequila, catch an independent film at the Magnolia, shop to your heart’s desire at the countless boutiques, or grab a bite at one of the many other restaurants.

Hop back on the trolley to the Dallas Arts District, which features many restaurants, as well as the Winspear Opera House and Meyerson Symphony Center. From there, walk or hop on the trolley again to Klyde Warren Park, Dallas’ newest outdoor space. Featuring food trucks, restaurants, games, and seating, it’s the perfect place to unwind with a cold drink or quick bite.

Once you’re down perusing the park, head on over to the Dallas Museum of Art, right across the street. And directly adjacent lies the Nasher Sculpture Center, just two of many art museums in the city.

Artsy’d out? Hop back on the trolley to the West End Station, where you’ll discover plenty of walkable restaurants and great souvenir shops. (Did somebody say “cowboy boots”?) Check out a concert or basketball or hockey game at the American Airlines Center, or grab a couple cold ones at Dallas’s own Hard Rock Cafe.

Ready to roll? (or walk?) Get moving, and check the trolley schedule here. The trolley runs 365 days a week, and operating hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to

10 p.m., Fridays 7 a.m. to midnight, Saturdays 10 a.m. to midnight, Sundays and holidays 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Dallas Farmers Market Tour https://foodtoursofamerica.com/dallas-farmers-market-tour/ Fri, 24 Jun 2016 16:56:29 +0000 http://www.toursdallas.net/?p=2791 Dallas Farmers Market

Located among the skyscrapers and the hustle of the city, the Dallas Farmers Market is a symbol of commitment to the health and nutrition of Dallas residents. With history of the farmers market dating back to the 1930s, its deep roots have helped the development of Dallas throughout the years and will continue to do so as the market enters a new era.

With a strong belief in secure food sourcing, a connection to food and the community, and revitalizing South Dallas, the Dallas Farmers Market is a great place to visit. Whether you’re looking for a fun team bonding event for your company, or you are in town for only a few days and need help navigating through the market, our new Farmers Market Tour is the perfect way to soak up some of the city’s history! Below is information on the foods you will taste and the places you will explore on our Farmers Market Tour.

Foods You’ll Taste on the Farmers Market Tour

Nuts from Everett and Elaine

Everett and Elaine is known for their locally grown pecans from their orchards! Because pecans have a very neutral taste, they can accommodate many different flavors. Some of the flavors you will be trying on our tour are orange zest, lavender, Texas spice, and their top seller choco-cherry.

Paul’s Sweet Roasted Corn

As part of the Dallas Farmers Market for 24 years, Paul is an integral part of the market’s community. Not only is he a friendly face, but also his corn can’t be beat! Paul personally tastes the raw kernel to make sure the corn is fresh and sweet, and he adds seasonings specifically for each customer.

T-Rex Pickles

With the owner’s background as a brewery worker, he has been using beer in recipes for years. When Travis, the owner, heard about a restaurant in Boston using beer to make pickles, he gave it a try and the rest is history! Tastings on our tour will include the regular dill, hot bread and butter, and one seasonal pickle.

Cajun Tailgaters

Inspired by the tailgating at LSU, the Cajun Tailgaters food truck and restaurant features rich flavors of Cajun southern-style cooking all made from scratch. Our tour will include tastings of pistolette, which is a toasted French roll stuffed with a cheesy crawfish etouffee sauce, and wildly popular beignets, or French donuts.

Palmieri

Owner Corrado Palmieri moved from Italy to develop an Italian coffee shop and bakery without compromising fresh, authentic, and natural ingredients. In addition to having a passion for authentic Italian food, Corrado’s mission is to offer moments of freedom in a warm and cozy atmosphere to anyone who visits him at the farmers market.

Texas Honeybee Guild

The Texas Honeybee Guild is passionate about their raw and unfiltered honey and protecting the health and well-being of bees in Texas. Through educational programs and urban micro-apiaries, they help educate the public on how bees play an integral part in our world. The owners now have more than 500 bee colonies across North Texas!

The Chilitepin King

If you like spicy, then you will love this stop on the tour! Today’s most commonly used peppers, like serranos, cayenne, jalapenos and habaneros, are derived from the Mother of all Peppers, the chilitepin. The Chilitepin King sells delicious jellies and salsas all made naturally with chilitepins that you will get to taste on our tour.

Places You’ll Visit on the Farmers Market Tour

 Harlan Building

Our first stop is the only original building that remains in the farmers market. The Harlan Building, which is part of Ruibal’s Gardens, was built in 1913. Historical preservationist (and Food Tours of America guide) Jim Anderson was an integral part of preserving this beautiful landmark.

Liberty Bank Building

Originally located at the corner of Elm and Cesar Chavez Blvd., the Liberty Bank Building was rebuilt like a giant jigsaw puzzle when it was relocated to the Dallas Farmers Market. With the original structure being built back in 1899, it was moved recently brick by brick to accommodate the widening of the street at its old location. We will be visiting this old building, which is now home to a delicious restaurant, the Green Door Public House, and a yoga studio, on the second stop of our tour.

Scottish Rite Cathedral

Chuck Norris fans will recognize this building from the television series Walker Texas Ranger! The Scottish Rite Cathedral was erected in the early 1900s by a group of Scottish Rite Masons. It was originally constructed to further human progress, and it still serves this purpose today. We will be exploring this cathedral during the third stop on our tour.

Dallas City Skyline

Mercantile National Bank was a 36-story building constructed in 1943 in the downtown core of Dallas. Today, in an effort to transform the area, it is home to a luxury apartment complex called Mercantile Place. We will be taking in the architecture of 35 historic buildings in the core of downtown Dallas as the final stop on our tour.
